Diarrhea patients on rise in port city

C T Online Desk: The number of diarrhea patients is increasing in Chittagong due to extreme heat. The patients are being admitted to the hospital every day. So far, 224 people have been admitted to different hospitals in Chittagong. According to the Civil Surgeon’s Office, 129 people have been hospitalized with diarrhea in 15 upazilas of Chittagong in the last 24 hours. Besides, 6 people have been admitted to Chittagong Medical College (CMC) Hospital, 13 to Chittagong General Hospital, 35 to Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) and 40 to Chittagong Maternal and Child General Hospital. Most of them are children. Doctors say the germs survive longer in the heat.

Moreover, many people drink unsafe water. This increases the chances of getting diarrhea. So you can’t drink water from anywhere besides outside food. The germs of diarrhea are spread more through water. So it is safest to drink boiled water. Some people also get diarrhea after eating open food and soft drinks on the streets. In case of frequent thin stools, vomiting, the patient should be admitted to the nearest health center without any risk.
