C T Online Desk: The Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2026, issued by the interim government to ban the activities of the Awami League, has been passed in the National Parliament.
The bill was approved by a voice vote during Wednesday’s afternoon sitting.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed tabled the bill in the House, where it was subsequently passed with majority support.
As a result, the ban on the activities of the Awami League will remain in force.
While speaking in Parliament, the Home Minister said that although anti-terrorism laws already existed in the country, the interim government had promulgated a special ordinance in light of the recent situation and public opinion. He noted that the ordinance included provisions to prohibit the activities of organisations linked to acts of mass killing, under which the activities of the Awami League had been banned.
Earlier in the day, the first session of the 13th National Parliament resumed at 11:00am with Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram in the chair.
