C T Online Desk: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman today promised to build a “Smart Moheshkhali” by utilising the Matarbari port.
He also announced that local candidate Hamidur Rahman Azad would be appointed a minister if Jamaat forms the government.
The Jamaat ameer was making the remarks as chief guest at an election rally held at Nutunbazar Government Primary School grounds in Moheshkhali upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
Addressing the rally, Shafiqur said a “massive public wave” had been created across the country in favour of the ‘Yes’ vote.
“Those who once hid their faces and remained silent are now compelled to speak in favour of ‘Yes’,” he said, adding that Jamaat wants public statements to reflect their true convictions.
He said the party does not believe in “winning at any cost”, describing it as “inconsistent” with the philosophy of the 11-party alliance.
“After winning the hearts of the people of Bangladesh, a new sun will rise on the 13th, following the 12th (election day),” he said.
Shafiqur said a “Yes” vote in the referendum represents “Azadi” (freedom), while a ‘No’ vote represents “Golami” (slavery).
He added that those opposing the “Yes” vote would be seen by the public as attempting to re-establish fascism and dynastic autocracy.
He urged people to remain vigilant to prevent what he described as “vote thieves” from influencing the election outcome.
The Jamaat ameer said the general public of the country is good, but alleged that the country’s leadership is “rotten”, claiming his party aims to correct this through electoral victory for candidates of the 11-party alliance.
Referring to money allegedly laundered from the country, he said Jamaat would recover the funds. “With this money, we will build a Bangladesh of ‘Insaaf’ (justice),” he said.
