C T Online Desk: Shakhawat Hossain Sabbir Special Correspondent : BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has said that one of the key responsibilities of the current interim government is to establish a truly democratic system — one that is elected by the people, accountable to the people, and free from fascism. “The interim government’s role is not to serve the interests of any particular political party,” he said.
Speaking as the chief guest at the Hindu Representative Conference 2025 held at the Krishibid Institute in Dhaka on Saturday, organized by the Matua Bahujan Samaj Oikyojote, Tarique highlighted the persecution BNP leaders and activists faced under the “fascist regime,” including over 150,000 false cases, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings.
He criticized the absence of justice for attacks on religious minorities, such as the 2012 Ramu and 2016 Nasirnagar incidents, and reiterated BNP’s call for a citizen investigation commission to ensure accountability.
Tarique emphasized that the protection of all citizens—regardless of religion—depends on justice and the rule of law. He urged all pro-democracy forces to remain united and vigilant so that “defeated fascist elements” cannot destabilize the country again.
He also unveiled BNP’s plans to introduce family cards for 5 million women-led households and farmers’ cards for small and marginal farmers, alongside skill development programs to tackle youth unemployment.
