Political Showdown Between BNP, Jamaat ‘Must End Now,’ Says NCP

C T Online Desk: Shakhawat Hossain Sabbir Special Correspondent Fani : The National Citizen Party (NCP) has called upon the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami to end their ongoing “political wrestling” over the implementation of the July Charter and the proposed referendum, urging both parties to engage in dialogue instead of confrontation.

Speaking at a press conference at the NCP’s temporary office in Banglamotor on Thursday evening, the party’s chief coordinator Nasir Uddin Patwary said, “BNP and Jamaat are engaged in a wrestling match — a political fight.

We have taken some initiatives since yesterday to stop this unnecessary conflict. We don’t want to see politics turn into a street fight.”

Calling on both parties to sit at the discussion table, he said, “The government has thrown the ball into your court. If you fail to find a solution now, it will be an embarrassment for you. Therefore, we urge both parties to come to the negotiation table.”

He added, “For six months, the government had them at the discussion table. Now, after leaving, they claim it was a table of deception. If that’s true, then you too were part of that deceptive process.”

The NCP coordinator informed that discussions with both BNP and Jamaat are ongoing to bring them to a single table. “We held a meeting yesterday with nine parties, including Ganatantra Mancha, AB Party, NCP, and Gana Odhikar Parishad, to move this initiative forward,” he said.

Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Jara and members of the NCP’s Central Election Steering Committee were also present at the press conference.
