Teachers Block Road After Police Halt March Toward Jamuna

C T Online Desk: Staff Correspondent | Shakhawat Hossain Sabbir : Teachers from non-MPO (Monthly Pay Order) educational institutions staged a sudden road blockade in the capital after police barred their march toward Jamuna on Tuesday morning.

The protesters, under the banner of the Non-MPO Educational Institutions Unity Council, began their march from the National Press Club, demanding the inclusion of all recognized institutions under the MPO scheme.

However, police intercepted them at the Kadam Fountain intersection, setting up barricades to prevent further movement.

The blockade brought traffic to a standstill on the Paltan–Press Club stretch, causing severe congestion in the area.

Chanting slogans such as “Ek dapo, ek dabi — MPO korte hobe” (One point, one demand — bring us under MPO), the teachers vowed not to leave the streets until their demand was met.

“We have been recognized long ago, yet remain deprived of government benefits,” said one of the protesting teachers. “We will not return home without a concrete decision.”

A six-member delegation of the protesters went to the Secretariat for talks with ministry officials.

Addressing reporters at the scene, the council’s chief coordinator, Principal Selim Mia, alleged, “Some agents of fascism are still working inside the Education Ministry. They must be identified and removed immediately so that our rights can be restored.”
