C T Online Desk: Q-1: What reason or what kind of interest makes you come to the world of Music? Can you tell us a bit about your journey into music?
Kabyasree Roy Chowdhury: My journey with music began in childhood. I was always surrounded by music at home and my parents recognized my passion early . From my childhood, I found pleasure in every kinds of songs.It gives me always joy and pleasure from the moment of hearing music.Besides,my parents always encouraged me to enjoy music.Having been influenced by their encouragement,I came to the sphere of music from my early life.
Q-2: Do you have any academic background in Music??
Kabyasree Roy Chowdhury :Yes,I have.I have done BA (Hons) in Vocal Music and M.A in kheyal from the Department of Music at Rabindra bharati University, Kolkata,west Bengal, India.I was offered full- funded scholarship from Indian Council for cultural Relations (ICCR) which is an organisation under indian ministry of external affairs.Inspite of that,I have done various training on Classical Music from many Reputed Music teachers(Guru) in kolkata,India.
Q-3: Rabindra Bharati University has a rich musical heritage. How did studying there influence your style or philosophy as a musician?
Kabyasree Roy Chowdhury : It had an extraordinary impact. The university is not only just an academic space but also it’s a cultural hub that celebrates Tagore’s legacy and beyond. I was introduced to a wide range of genres and my mentors encouraged me to explore and evolve my own voice. The blend of classical training and creative freedom allowed me to develop both technical depth and emotional expression.
Q-4:At present, what are you doing with Music career?
Kabyasree Roy Chowdhury :Now I have been working as an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Music at Santo -Mariam University of Creative Technology which is located in Uttara,Dhaka,Bangladesh. It’s a very renowned University. It’s very famous for it’s Creative Departments like Music,Dance,Fine arts,Fashion Design etc.I am enjoying my teaching profession there.I am working about 2 years there.
Q-5: You wear many hats like musician, teacher, and performer. How do you balance these roles?
Kabyasree Roy Chowdhury : Each role complements the other. Teaching helps me revisit the fundamentals and stay rooted. Performing allows me to express and connect with audiences, while my personal practice and exploration as a musician keeps me inspired. I try to maintain a balance by dedicating focused time for each area and always staying open to learning.
Q-6: What inspires your music? Are there particular themes or emotions you like to express through your performances?
Kabyasree Roy Chowdhury : I’m deeply inspired by nature, human emotions, and spiritual thought. Whether it’s a classical raga or a modern composition, I aim to convey a sense of honesty and connection. I believe music has the power to heal and bring people together, and that is what I try to reflect in my performances.
Q-7: As a music teacher, what message do you try to pass on to your students?
Kabyasree Roy Chowdhury : I always tell my student that music is not just about talent moreover it’s about dedication, discipline, and heart. I encourage them to not only focus on technical skills but to understand the emotion behind every note. I want them to love the process and stay curious, because learning in music never ends.
Q-8: Any memorable performance or moment in your career that you’d like to share?
Kabyasree Roy Chowdhury : There are many but one that stands out was a performance of Classical Music during a cultural event In Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The show was organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and it’s name was “Srastrio sangeet and nritta utsab”. The energy in the room and the audience’s response were like a spiritual experience. Moments like these remind me why I chose this path.
Q-9: What are your current projects or plans for the future?
Kabyasree Roy Chowdhury : I’m currently working on a few original compositions blending classical elements with contemporary themes. I’m also expanding my teaching platform to reach more students online. Looking ahead, I hope to collaborate with other artists and perhaps release an album that captures my musical journey so far.I am also working as a research fellow in the Department of Music, Dhaka University. I am trying to find a connection between classical Music and folk songs.
Q-10: That sounds wonderful. Lastly, what advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
Kabyasree Roy Chowdhury : Stay patient and stay true to your art. There will be challenges, but if you’re consistent and passionate, music will reward you in the most beautiful ways. And never stop learning—every performance, every mistake, every moment is part of the journey.
