C T Online Desk: Shakhawat Hossain Sabbir Feni Correspondent : Feni has witnessed a significant slump in this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination results under the Cumilla Education Board, with four of its six upazilas recording pass rates below 40 percent.
According to the upazila-wise breakdown, Feni Sadar retained the top position with a 60.63 percent pass rate and 217 students achieving the highest grade, GPA-5. In contrast, other upazilas in the district have fared poorly, raising concern among educators and parents alike.
Chhagalnaiya ranked second with a 45.17 percent pass rate and 17 GPA-5 achievers, followed by Daganbhuiyan, which posted a 39.60 percent pass rate and only 3 GPA-5s. Parshuram upazila performed moderately, securing a 32.52 percent pass rate with 3 students achieving GPA-5.
However, the situation is alarming in the two lowest-performing upazilas — Phulgazi and Sonagazi — where the pass rates stood at 27.57 percent and 27.2 percent, respectively.
Phulgazi produced just 1 GPA-5 recipient, while Sonagazi had only 3.
Education observers and members of the local civil society have expressed deep concern over the stark disparity in performance across the district. They argue that while Feni Sadar’s consistent success highlights stronger institutional support and student engagement, the marginal upazilas clearly lag behind in educational quality and resource allocation.
They have called on the authorities to take urgent and targeted measures to improve teaching standards, ensure better monitoring, and provide academic support to rural institutions.
