C T Online Desk: Doctors, nurses, officers and employees of Chittagong Maa-o-Shishu Hospital have started a movement to protest against the illegal deprivation of various facilities and deduction of salaries of doctors and health workers. They went on strike at the hospital on Monday (April 4) from 8am to 11pm. The protesters warned that if the demand is not met within 24 hours, the medical services will be stopped. A doctor who led the movement told media on condition of anonymity that the hospital authorities were illegally cutting our salaries and allowances. At the same time, our various facilities have been reduced. We have to work 18 hours extra every week. Maternity leave is 4 months. Infectious disease leave is only 14 days. We are shocked by the decision of the authorities even after providing medical services. Our demand is to increase all kinds of facilities and stop illegal pay cuts. Otherwise we will be forced to go for a tough movement. Rezaul Karim Azad, general secretary of the mother and child general hospital management committee, told banglanews that according to the rules, if one is absent from work for three days, there is a provision to deduct one day’s salary. But due to being absent for seven days, one day’s salary is being deducted. Many joined the movement. Authorities have taken steps to restore order in the hospital. But since they are protesting, we will talk to them. I will listen to their demands. At present they have withdrawn from the movement and joined the workplace. The Mother and Child General Hospital has 650 beds. There are more than four hundred doctors working in hospitals and colleges
