C T Online Desk: Sarwar Jahan Jewel Mymensingh : Government land sale worth hundreds of crores of taka: Documents suspended after ACC raid.
The sale of 84 acres of government land with a 1/1 Khatian for just 550,000 taka in the Patgudam Railir Mor area of Town Mouza in Mymensingh city has created a sensation.
The deed (number 8489) was executed at the Sadar Sub-Registry Office on June 1 of this year. However, the market value of the land is around 100 crore taka.
On Sunday afternoon, Mymensingh Senior Assistant Judge Pawan Chandra Barman ordered a temporary stay on the execution and registration of this controversial document.
The court order said that a cataract case has been filed to cancel the document and the previous decree proceedings have also been stayed.
Earlier in the morning, a four-member team led by ACC Assistant Director Raju Mohammad Sarwar Hossain began the investigation. They examined and sorted documents from the sub-registry office, the regional office of the Jute Mill Corporation, and the district judge’s court.
The ACC assistant director said, “We have found evidence of negligence of duty in the investigation. The court has suspended the documents and decree. Action will be taken against those involved.”
Sources said that the land was originally owned by Revati Mohan Das. In 1963, it was transferred to the name of Adamjee Jute Mills Limited. Later, when the mill was closed, the land was recorded as government property.
In 2022, a group led by the fugitive general secretary of the district Awami League, Moazzem Hossain Babul, started a conspiracy to grab the land. As part of their plan, a man named Rabindra Mohan Das filed a case (No. 514/22) claiming to be the son of Revati Mohan Das, which was dismissed by the court in May 2024.
However, before the case was dismissed, a new case was filed with a power of attorney to one Mirash Uddin Sumon, and in June of this year, a land sale deed was executed for only 550,000 taka.
It has been alleged that although the name of Rabindra Mohan Das is listed as the donor in this document, Senior Assistant Judge Pawan Chandra Barman signed on his behalf.
This has raised various questions in the public mind about the role of the courts, sub-registry offices, and those concerned.
