C T Online Desk: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin said that foreign observers who previously gave certificates of approval to the past three elections-declaring them as very fair, acceptable, and credible, will not be allowed as observers in the upcoming election.
He said this while speaking to journalists on Tuesday after a meeting with Canadian High Commissioner Ajit Singh at the Election Commission office.
He said, “The Canadian High Commissioner wanted to know whether we will be able to complete our preparations and the upcoming election properly. We have shared detailed information about our preparations, especially regarding the awareness-raising campaign we are going to launch. We will begin voter education on a massive scale across the country. Canada will assist us in training polling agents and observers. The High Commissioner also emphasized how well we have been able to include female voters in our voter registration.”
The Canadian High Commissioner also inquired about how awareness campaigns would be conducted in the hill tracts, he said.
The High Commissioner also wanted to know about the Election Commission’s role in preventing the misuse of AI during elections. Since Canada recently held its own elections, they have faced issues related to AI. We have sought some cooperation from Canada regarding the election, and the High Commissioner has assured us that Canada will support a fair and neutral election in Bangladesh.
In response to a question about whether the High Commissioner inquired about the election timeline, the CEC said there was no discussion on that matter.
“What you know about the election timeline is exactly what I know. I will inform you two months in advance of the election date,” he said.
