23 Bangladeshi women, children staying at safe homes in India repatriated

C T Online Desk: Twenty-three Bangladeshi nationals, including  women and children, were repatriated home through Petrapole-Benapole check post on Tuesday (March 22).

Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Kolkata and Special Taskforce (formed for prevention of women and children trafficking) under the  Department of Women and Child Development and Social Welfare of West Bengal, India  jointly took the initiative to repatriate the Bangladeshi women and children, who were trafficked to India.

A good number of Bangladeshi women and children, who were trafficked on different occasions or illegally or wrongly entered India and detrained later, are staying in different safe homes in West Bengal.

Directorate of Child Rights and Trafficking under West Bengal Government inform Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Kolkata about the detained women and children following due procedures.

In association with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, an special team of Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Kolkata led by its First Secretary (Political) Shamima Yasmin Smriti  handed over the 23 women and children to local district and police administration at Benapole in Jashore.

Of the 23 Bangladeshi nationals, there are six adult women, other eight women and nine men who are under 18 years old and who were staying at different safe homes in India after detention.
