C T Online Desk: The Chittagong Education Board has achieved a pass rate of 70.32% for this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations, reflecting a decrease of 4.13% compared to 2023.
Professor Rezaul Karim, chairman of the Chittagong Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, shared the results during a press conference on Tuesday.
As many as 106,298 candidates registered for the exams, with 105,416 present. Of these, 74,125 students passed, and 10,269 students achieved GPA-5.
Among the GPA-5 recipients, 5,759 are girls and 4,510 are boys.
While the overall pass rate has declined, the number of GPA-5 achievers has increased from last year’s 6,339.
According to board data, the pass rate for boys is 67.72%, while for girls it is 72.49%. Additionally, 17,697 candidates failed in one subject.
Candidates from the districts of Cox’s Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban, along with Chittagong district and city, participated in the examinations.
The pass rates in these areas are as follows: Cox’s Bazar at 63.19%, Rangamati at 60.32%, Khagrachhari at 59.63%, and Bandarban at 59.90%.
In departmental results, students from the science stream performed best, achieving a pass rate of 91.33%. The humanities stream recorded a pass rate of 57.11%, while the business education stream had a pass rate of 73.52%.
This year, 282 colleges participated in the exams across 115 centres, with 13 colleges achieving a 100% pass rate. However, five colleges had no students passing at all, and the results of 22 students have been withheld.
