C T Online Desk: People from all walks of life, including thousands of students, participated in joyous processions across the country, celebrating Sheikh Hasina’s resignation from the position of Prime Minister and her departure from the country on Monday.
In Chittagong, a celebratory procession began at 3pm on Monday.
Sweets were distributed, and shopkeepers reported that all their sweets were sold out within an hour.
The largest gathering in the city took place at the New Market area, where sweets were distributed alongside victory celebrations.
In Khulna, people also rejoiced at the news of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and departure.
After 3pm, thousands took to the streets, chanting slogans. Leaders and activists from various political parties joined the students in celebration.
Student Md Shanto expressed his joy, saying: “The benefits of the movement have been realized. We are victorious. We have honoured the blood of our brothers. Now, the students must hold on to this victory and build a Bangladesh without discrimination.”
Rehana Akhter, a medical student, said: “We are having a festival now. But everyone needs to be calm. Students should remain vigilant.”
In Rangpur, people from all walks of life took part in a joyous procession after the announcement of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation.
Many were seen waving the national flag. The crowd’s unrestrained cheer was notable, and army vehicles were seen showering flowers on the crowd in congratulation.
The marchers remained peaceful, with no reports of anarchy or untoward incidents.
Earlier, from 12pm, people, including students, began gathering at Rangpur Town Hall premises. The area was initially deserted, but after the news of the army chief’s address to the nation and Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, thousands erupted in unbridled joy. The area was filled with slogans like “Our Victory,” “The Students’ Victory,” and “The Fall of the Government”.
The procession then moved through various streets of the city, and the cheering continued.
Similar celebrations were observed in the eight upazilas of Rangpur district.
