Quota reform activists protest in Chattogram braving rain

C T Online Desk: Quota reform activists staged a protest in Chittagong, braving the rain.

They assembled in front of Andarkilla Shahi Jame Masjid and began their procession on Friday noon.

The march proceeded through Laldighi Maidan towards the New Market intersection.

After a half-hour stop there, the procession continued towards the railway station area and later moved through Lalkhan Bazar to the Gate No 2 area of the city.

The protesters demanded justice for those affected by the quota movement and called for the release of detained students.

On Thursday night, Khan Talat Mahmud Rafi, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Chittagong, called for a “prayer and student mass rally”.

He urged participation from all sectors of society, including students, teachers, lawyers, doctors, intellectuals, cultural workers, media professionals, human rights activists, clerics, workers, and parents.

A heavy police presence was noted at key intersections, including Andarkilla.

Many protesters gathered in front of the police at the Andarkilla junction, chanting slogans.

Despite the large turnout, the police adopted a passive approach.
