C T Online Desk: Karnaphuli tunnel is becoming suitable for traffic. Tunnel traffic will be suitable only after completion of road construction inside the tube, link road work and ancillary works including internal connection. So far the progress of tunnel construction work has been 81.5%. The bridge department, the implementing agency, is moving ahead with a plan to complete the project by next December. The project is being completed in time without any increase in cost. The tunnel could be open to traffic early next year.
The excavation work of the second tube of the dream tunnel has been completed and the connecting road and other ancillary works have started from October last year. Work on the project link road is already at the final stage. Road work is going on inside the tube. Moreover, various electrical works are also going on. Through these ancillary works, the construction work of this much awaited tunnel is being completed. The tunnel will be completed by next December. Then in the beginning of 2023, the traffic in the tunnel may be inaugurated.
