Separated conjoined twin babies return home after recovery

C T Online Desk: The conjoined twin babies who were separated successfully at BSMMU recently returned home today (Wednesday) after recovering fully.

The BSMMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Sharfudfin Ahmed made the announcement at a press confernace at the medical university this morning.

The conjoined twin babies were recently separated successfully through carrying out surgery at  Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital in the capital.

With the financial assistance of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the 2.5 months old conjoined twin Abubakar and Omor Faruque with fusion of the anterior thorax and abdomen were separated in the successful surgery at operation theatre in Cabin block of the BSMMU.

The 78-day old babies were from ward no. 3 of Tungipara municipality area in Gopalganj district. The twin babies of Chaina Begum and Al Amin Sheikh were born on July 4 this year, BSMMU said.

After taking birth, the conjoined twin babies were admitted to the BSMMU hospital under Prof Dr. A.K.M. Zahid Hossain, chairman of the Department of Paediatric Surgery at the BSMMU. They were undergoing treatment at cabin on. 201 in the cabin block of the hospital.

Liver and chest bone of Abu Bakar and Omor Faruque were joined during their birth, the BSMMU said.

The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given support for treatment of the two newborn babies and gives necessary directives to the concerned authority for their proper treatment.

After carrying out necessary tests, a team of the physicians of the BSMMU carried out surgery to separate Abu Bakar and Omor Faruque at 8:30am on September 20.
