International Literacy Day observed in Rangamati

C T Online Desk: Sept 8, 2023- The International Literacy Day-2023 was observed today in the district as elsewhere in the country in a befitting manner.

This year’s theme of the day is ‘Promoting Literacy for a World in Transition: Building the Foundation for Sustainable and Peaceful Societies’.

The 8th of September was proclaimed as International Literacy Day by the UNESCO in 1966 to remind the international community of the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and societies, and the need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies.

On the occasion, a colourful rally was brought out from the city’s Happy Mor area that paraded the important streets and ended deputy commissioner’s office around 9:30am this morning.

Marking the day, a discussion was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) office presided over by DC Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) S. M. Ferdous Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Nasreen Sultana, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Najma Binte Amin, District Education Officer Mridul Kanti Talukder, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Heads of various educational institutions of the district, representatives of non-government organizations, teachers and students of various academic institutions were present.
