Khalid seeks global support for promotion of cultural heritages

C T Online Desk: Aug 26, 2023- State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid today sought global support to enhance professional capacity and policy implementation to protect and promote cultural heritage.

“Bangladesh has a rich and diverse cultural heritage and the country is firmly committed to take all necessary steps against the destruction, looting and distortion of cultural heritage at any situation,” he said.

The state minister said this while addressing the G-20 cultural ministers’ meeting in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, said an official handout here today.

“We need continued support and cooperation of the global community, including the G-20, to strengthen the policy and professional capacity to ensure effective protection, security and promotion of cultural heritages,” Khalid said.

As the 2030 agenda recognizes the role of culture supportive for the sustainable development that would come through cultural heritage and creativity, Khalid said, Bangladesh has attached utmost importance for coordination between cultural heritage and environmental sustainability.

Khalid said, Bangladesh is a land of diverse culture inhabiting 51 ethnic minority groups. Our constitution allows every citizen to freely practice their own culture.

Bangladesh government is working relentlessly to protect and promote every chapter of culture, he noted.

A video message of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was screened at the meeting while Indian Cultural affairs Minister G Kishan Reddy delivered the welcome address.
