Chittagong elevated expressway named after ex-mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury

C T Online Desk: The Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) has decided to name the port city’s first elevated expressway after former mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury.

The decision was taken on Thursday at a board meeting of the CDA, chaired by CDA Chairman Zahirul Alam Dubash.

Board Member Advocate Jinat Sohana Chowdhury, who attended the meeting, said: “The CDA chairman proposed naming the elevated expressway after the late Chittagong mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury. He presented it in the meeting as a proposal from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and it was unanimously approved.”

“Work is set to be finished by October, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate it during her visit to Chittagong,” she added.

On July 11, 2017, the Chittagong Elevated Expressway project, connecting Shah Amanat International Airport with Lalkhan Bazar, was approved at a cost of Tk3,250 crore.

In 2022, the construction cost increased to Tk4,369 crore.

The CDA is overseeing the implementation of this flyover project, which is approximately 16km in length.

The elevated expressway has a width of 54 feet, four lanes, 24 loops and ramps, and 390 pillars.

Currently, over 80% of the project is complete, with 10km from the airport to Nimtala finished.

The remaining 6km, from Nimtala to Lalkhan Bazar, is undergoing railing-piling and casting work.
