C T Online Desk: Traffic on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway has finally returned to normalcy after two days of disruption caused by flooding.
The receding floodwaters have allowed vehicles to resume their journey on this route.
Dohazari Highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khan Md Irfan reported that the water levels started receding on Wednesday, leading to some vehicles cautiously using the road during the night. By Thursday morning, the highway was clear of water, and traffic movement had fully resumed.
However, despite the improvement, traffic was reported to be moving slowly at certain points due to the potholes caused by the heavy rainfall and flooding.
The disruption in traffic had been a result of the submerging of a kilometer-long stretch of the highway in Chandanish upazila.
The road closure had severed communication between Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, and Bandarban.
Though the situation has improved on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar stretch, communication with Bandarban remains closed.
During the two-day disruption, some vehicles managed to navigate the situation by using an alternate route through Banshkhali.
While traffic has returned to normal on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway, several areas in Chandanish Satkania and Lohagara upazilas are still submerged in water.
The local authorities and residents are working to address the challenges posed by the floodwaters in these regions.
