C T Online Desk: Four people, including two Rohingyas, were killed and two others were injured in a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall in Cox’s Bazar on Monday.
Mohammad Amir Jafar, commander (additional DIG) of APBn-8 said: “During the continuous heavy rains, a hill collapsed in this block of Balukhali-9 camp in Ukhiya upazila this afternoon.”
Later, a team of fire service, police and Rohingya volunteers came and dug the soil and recovered the bodies of Anwarul Islam’s wife Jannat Ara and her two-year-old daughter, he added.
Chakaria Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) JP Dewan said two children were killed when a hill collapsed in Ward No 3 Baritali, Chakaria due to incessant rains.
Meanwhile, incessant rains and upstream hill slopes have caused flooding in some upazilas of Cox’s Bazar. A total of 60 villages across 15 unions in Chakaria, Pekua, and Ramu Sadar upazilas are inundated, leaving over 150,000 residents stranded.
The water of the Matamuhuri river and Bakkhali river is flowing above the danger level.
A young man was washed away by the river’s Lakharchar point while collecting wood coming with the flow of water in the Matamuhuri river.
