C T Online Desk: European Union (EU) Special Representative for Human Rights Eamon Gilmore arrived in Cox’s Bazar with a five-member delegation for a two-day visit to observe the situation of the Rohingya refugees and engage with concerned individuals.
The delegation landed at Cox’s Bazar airport at around 10am on Thursday. From there, they proceeded to the Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila.
At 11am, the EU delegation visited the UNHCR-run Rohingya registration program at Ukhiya Kutupalong Camp No 4. Following that, they would visit the Unicef-run Rohingya Children’s Learning Centre and the Rohingya education program.
In the afternoon, the delegation would visit the eVoucher Centre managed by the United Nations World Food Program.
Later in the day, Eamon Gilmore would interact with a delegation of the Rohingya community at UNHCR’s Community Centre. The Rohingya delegation comprised community leaders, both men and women, and several Rohingya youths.
Subsequently, he would visit the Rohingya Cultural Centre, which is operated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
In the afternoon, the EU human rights chief would hold discussions with senior government officials at the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Office. Later in the evening, officials from various international organizations, including the United Nations, would convene for a meeting in Cox’s Bazar.
