Poet Kazi Roji passes away

C T Online Desk: Eminent poet and former MP Kazi Roji passed away at a hospital in the capital early hours of Sunday.

She breathed her last at around 2:30am while undergoing treatment.

Sumi Sikander, daughter of Roji, confirmed the matter.

The poet had been ill for several days and was receiving treatment from her home. On December 30, she was admitted to the ICU of Labaid Hospital as her condition suddenly worsened after testing positive for Covid-19.

Kazi Roji was born on January 1, 1949 in Satkhira. He obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Bengali Literature from Dhaka University (DU).

She was elected Member of Parliament for the reserved women’s seat in the 10th National Parliament.

The poet won the Bangla Academy Award in 2016 and Ekushey Padak in 2021 for her special contribution in language and literature.
