C T Online Desk: Six of the 10 decomposed bodies recovered from a fishing trawler floating off Nazirertek Beach in Cox’s Bazar have been identified and handed over to the families on Monday.
In the presence of Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shaheen Imran and Superintendent of Police Md Mahfuzul Islam, during the handing over of the body, a donation of Tk25,000 was given to the families of the deceased.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shaheen Imran said that the donation has been provided initially for burial and other works.
Superintendent of Police Md Mahfuzul Islam said that the bodies of six out of 10 people who were recovered were handed over to the next of kin after verification. The bodies of four others are in the hospital morgue.
DNA samples were collected from all the bodies that were handed over and those that were not identified. After testing these samples, the identity can be further confirmed, he added.
The SP said that a statement had been asked to be submitted to the police station. After receiving the statement, a case will be filed in this regard.

According to their families, the deceased are Samshul Alam, 23, Saiful Islam, 18, Sawkat Ullah, 18, Osman Goni, 17, Saifullah, 23, Parvez Mosharraf, 14, Nurul Kabir, 28, Saiful Islam, 34, Mohammad Shahjahan, 35 and Tarek Zia, 25.
The four deceased who haven’t been handed over are Saiful Islam, 18, Saifullah, 23, Parvez Mosharraf, 14, and Saiful Islam, 34. The police did not hand over as the identity was not confirmed.
