C T Online Desk: Bangladesh will celebrate the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the greatest religious festival of the Muslims, on Saturday.
The moon-sighting committee confirmed the date on Friday evening after a meeting.
The meeting was presided over by State Minister for Religious Affairs Md Faridul Haque Khan after Maghrib at Islamic Foundation Baitul Mukarram Hall.
The committee made the decision after reviewing data from all district administrations, Islamic Foundation head offices, divisional and district offices, the Meteorological Department and space research and remote sensing institutes.
The main congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr will be held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises at 8am on the Eid day.
The National Eidgah ground in Dhaka, the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, the Sholakia Eidgah ground in Kishoreganj and all mosques and grounds of the country are ready to hold the Eid-ul-Fitr congregations amid festivity.
Altogether five Eid congregations will be held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital, beginning at 7am.
Meanwhile, the holy Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in some upazilas of Dinajpur, Chandpur, Lalmonirhat, Tangail, Jamalpur, Kurigram, Moulvibazar, Barisal and Satkhira districts amid religious fervour in line with Saudi Arabia on Friday.
In Bangladesh, numerous Muslims celebrate Eid in sync with Saudi Arabia, maintaining a long-standing tradition across various communities in the country.
Saudi Arabia and other middle eastern countries observed Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday, as the Shawwal moon was sighted on Thursday.
