Collision of passenger, freight trains leaves 20 injured in Comilla

C T Online Desk: Six carriages and the locomotive of the Dhaka-bound Sonar Bangla Express derailed after hitting a stationary freight train at Hasanpur Railway Station of Comilla on Monday evening.

At least 20 people were injured in the incident.

The accident caused train movement suspended on Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet routes.

According to locals, the express train hit the freight train from behind.

The injured have been taken to hospitals, and the number of casualties may rise, said Jashim Uddin Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Laksham Railway police station.

A top official of Bangladesh Railway stated that the express was diverted from the main line to a line where the freight train was stationary due to an error.
