C T Online Desk: Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing on Thursday said the people of all the religions live freely in Bangladesh.
“The bad people don’t belong to any party or religion. Those who are criminals and terrorists in society will no way be spared. The government will in no way tolerate such bad people,” he said.
The minister made the remarks while addressing as the chief guest at a worship ceremony (puja) at the auditorium of the Small Ethnic Group Cultural Institute in Bandarban Sadar, said a PID handout.
He said it was Bangabandhu’s policy, goal and ideal that the people of all religions would live together in Bangladesh.
Ushwe Sing also took part in a colorful procession there to celebrate Sangrai, one of the main traditional ceremonies of the Marma community. The procession started from Bandarban Rajar ground and ended on the premises of the Small Ethnic Group Cultural Institute after parading major roads of Bandarban town.
Sangrai is the name of the New Year celebration of the Bangladeshi Marma and Rakhine ethnic groups, which is celebrated from April 13 to 15 every year.
The CHT Minister urged all to work in unison for the country welcoming the new year (Bengali year) and saying goodbye to the bygone year.
Leaders of the small ethnic communities and officials of the district administration were present.
