2 cases started against actor Mahiya Mahi, husband

C T Online Desk: Two separate cases have been filed against Dhallywood actor Mahiya Mahi and her husband, Rakib Sarker, at Gazipur’s Basan police station on charges of land grabbing and tarnishing the image of the police.

Rokon Miah, sub-inspector at Bason police station under the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), filed one case on Friday night under the Digital Security Act (DSA), accusing the couple of impairing the law order situation by spreading false, fabricated, defamatory and attacking information with the intention of defamation.

Another case was filed by Ismail Hossain, a resident of the Dighirchala area, who accused the two of grabbing land forcefully.

GMP Commissioner Molla Nazrul Islam said Mahi had accused the GMP of taking “bribes” on Facebook.

“On Facebook, the actor tried to get people’s sympathy by lying. She also complained about the police. They are on a mission to make the police force controversial. But neither Mahi nor her husband came to me with any matter related to land. I do not even know those against whom she has complained. A case was filed against them under the Digital Security Act for tarnishing the image of the police.”

Mahi, who went to perform Umrah with her husband on Friday morning, complained about an attack and vandalism at Rakib’s car showroom, Sony Raz Car Palace, on Facebook Live from Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

She said the attack had been carried out under the leadership of Ismail Hossain alias Laden and Mamun Sarkar.

She alleged that the police had allowed their opponents to take control of their land in exchange for Tk1.5 crore.

GMP Commissioner Molla Nazrul Islam said the police had received an emergency call from 999 and sent a team who had found no one at the scene.

Ismail Hossain held a press conference afterwards, denying all allegations and claiming that the car showroom had been built on his property.

He said Rakib Sarker was occupying about 11.15 decimal of his land and had made a car showroom on it.

He said he had complained to various departments of the government and the home minister in order to recover the land, adding that efforts had been made to resolve the issue.

In the meantime, Rakib Sarker’s people started bringing in new cars to the showroom on Thursday night, Ismail said.

Ismail said upon receiving the news, he along with some people went to the spot.

At that time, Rakib’s men attacked them with local weapons, he alleged.

“They vandalized their own showroom. Besides, three people including me were injured in this incident,” said Ismail.

He also said Rakib Sarker demanded Tk1 crore from him in exchange for giving up the land.

“Why would I pay Tk1.5 crore to the police when the problem would be solved by giving Tk1 crore to Rakib? If the police were on my side, why was I beaten up? Why did I then take my complaint to the minister of liberation war affairs and the minister of home affairs?”

Ismail said Rakib was using his actor wife, Mahi, to bring the GMP under suspicion.
