Remembering the Father of our nation

C T Online Desk: March 17 is a glorious day for Bangladesh. It is the day that gave us Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the man who would go on to determine the fate of our nation.

As we celebrate the 103rd birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, we are reminded to once again reflect on how the many contributions of one man — a born leader, a visionary, and a pioneer in his own right — formed the very basis of Bangladesh as a liberated nation.

Bangabandhu is the reason why the Bangladesh we know today came into being. His bravery in the face of extreme and violent opposition from the Pakistani government not only sowed the determination to fight for an independent nation in his people, but has since influenced all Bangladeshis to continue aspiring for the greatness he believed in.

His infamous speech from March 7, 1971, and “friendship to all, malice to none” policy have inspired past and present generations to continue building the free, fair, and flourishing Shonar Bangla that he envisioned.

Even after his brutal assassination on August 15, 1975, Bangabandhu lives on in the hearts of our people. His resilience and devotion towards his motherland run deep within the veins of our country, and his values of democracy, secularism, and equality continue to be an integral part of the very design of Bangladesh.

Our achievements so far as a nation can be largely attributed to Bangabandhu’s contributions. As we move towards establishing a Smart Bangladesh, it is with utmost confidence that we can say that Bangabandhu’s vision of a prosperous Bangladesh will remain as the ultimate force that drives us towards our ambitions.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and everything he stood for, will remain immortalized in the history of Bangladesh.
