C T Online Desk: The National Board of Revenue (NBR) wants to install at least two container scanners at the Chittagong Port by June before the start of the next financial year. For this reason, the Chinese company Naktech has already started the process of sending two container scanners to Chittagong port, according to NBR sources. Bangladeshi local representative of the organization observed various scannerless gates of Chittagong port. The company will start the process of setting up two fixed containers at two gates after meeting with the port and customs.
Earlier, an agreement was signed at the NBR head office on January 4 with the Chinese company Naktech Company Limited to install a total of 6 modern fixed container scanners including 4 in Chittagong port to prevent smuggling, security risks and false declarations in import-export trade. For the installation of six scanners, the cost of this project has been fixed at 147 crore 96 lakh 80 thousand taka. The Chinese company will also maintain the scanners for the next 5 years after installation.
Noted that the National Board of Revenue started the tender process in March 2021 for the installation of these 6 container scanners. After inviting tenders on March 31 last year, the tender dates were postponed 4 times (June 24, July 15, August 3 and August 25) in various factories.
