Bangladesh New Delhi mission pays homage to language martyrs

C T Online Desk: Feb 21, 2023– Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, India today paid tributes to the 1952 language martyrs through ‘probhatfery’ and placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar on the chancery premises.

On the occasion of the Shaheed Dibas and the International Mother Language Day, the national flag was hoisted at half mast at the mission while a special prayer was offered seeking divine blessings for the language martyrs at the mission in New Delhi, according to a press release received here.

One-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Mustafizur Rahman led the probhat ferry (dawn procession) while senior journalist and veteran freedom fighter Abed Khan, officers and staff of the mission and Bangladeshi students from different universities in India joined the procession.

The Ekushey theme song “Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rongano Ekushey February” was sung at the parade along the chancery premises.

Speaking on the occasion, Bangladesh High Commissioner in New Delhi Md Mustafizur Rahman said the UNESCO declared February 21 as International Mother Lange Day in 1999, thanks to efforts made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He praised the historic role of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to establish the Bangla as the state language. The high commissioner said, “Now it’s very important for us to make our young generation conversant with our rich and proud history, our heroes, the culture and heritage”.

At the event, messages of President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam were read out.
