Covid-19: Ten more districts marked as high-risk zones

C T Online Desk: Amid rising coronavirus cases and fatalities, the health authorities in Bangladesh have marked ten more districts as high-risk zones because of their high infection rates.

After analyzing Covid-19 data, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) published a list on Wednesday categorising the different coronavirus-hit districts into three zones – red, yellow, and green – based on the severity of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, 25 more district have been marked as “yellow zones” or at “mid-level risk”.

The infection rate in the districts designated as yellow zones is between 5 percent and 9 percent.

With the latest development, the total of red and yellow zoned districts in the country now stands at 12 and 31 receptively.

Earlier on 12 January the DGHS had marked capital Dhaka and Rangamati as red zones where infection rate were 12.9% and 10% respectively and Jessore, Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Lalmonirhat, Natore, Rangpur under yellow zones.

The 21 other districts are in the green zone as their infection rates were below 5 percent.

The health officials recorded 8,407 positive cases in the last 24 hours till 8 am on Tuesday.

The positivity rate rose to 23.98 percent as 35,054 samples were tested across the country. Besides, ten more people died of the virus during the same period.
