C T Online Desk: Rangamati District Administration has increased the ban on fishing in the Kaptai lake for a shortage of water. The decision was taken at a meeting held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Thursday. Earlier last year, the ban was increased by three days in a shortage of water. Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Md.Mizanur Rahman chaired the meeting to enhance the fisheries ban on the Kaptai lake.
Additional District Magistrate Md. Mamun Mia, BFDC Manager Commander Touhidul Islam, District Fisheries activist Srivas Chandra, Fisheries Traders Association President Harunur Rashid, General Secretary Udayan Barua, Banarupa Merchants Association President Abu Chhayad, ward council No. 1.were present in the meeting. According to the sources, the district administration imposed ban on marketing and transport for three months from May 1 to July 7 to ensure the breeding and natural reproduction of carpi in the Kaptai lake, the largest artificial reservoir in Southeast Asia. This year, it was given three months at the time of the ban, but it was decided to stop the collection of fish for another five days due to lack of enough water in the lake.
