Govt asks all to wear mask, avoid gathering

C T Online Desk: The government on Tuesday issued instructions to all to avoid public gatherings and reinforced the ‘no mask, no service’ policy and mandatory use of masks everywhere in a bid to contain the rising trend of Covid cases in the country.

The country, meanwhile, recorded three more deaths from Covid-19 and 2,087 fresh cases in a span of 24 hours till 8:00am on Tuesday.

The Cabinet Division issued the new instructions and policies after the National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 made six recommendations on the day to contain the further spread of Covid-19, reported United News of Bangladesh.

The recommendations include requesting media to raise awareness about health guidelines, mandatory use of masks at all places, including shopping malls, restaurants and religious ones like mosques, temples and churches, enforcement of the ‘no mask no service’ policy, social distancing and avoidance of public gatherings, asking people with symptoms to undergo Covid test, sermons of imams for maintaining health guidelines and wearing masks during Jumma prayers.

The cabinet also asked the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to implement the recommendations.

The test positivity rate on Tuesday rose to 15.47 from Monday’s 15.20 per cent as 13,184 samples were tested during the 24-hour period, reported the Directorate General of Health Services.

With the latest figures, the commutative death toll rose to 29,145 and the commutative tally of cases to 1969,391, while the average positivity rate was 13.75 since the detection of first Covid cases on March 8, 2020.

The latest fatal Covid victims, including two women and a man, died under treatment at hospitals. Two of them are from Chattogram division and another from Dhaka division.

On Monday, Bangladesh saw daily new Covid cases climb past the 2,000 mark after 127 days.

The last time the health directorate counted more than 2,100 new cases in a day was on February 19.

In the 25th epidemiological week that ended on Sunday, the health directorate reported 300 per cent increase in new weekly infections, compared with the 24th week.

Experts has warned that a new Covid outbreak is taking place amid people showing complete disregard  to health guidelines such as physical distancing and wearing of masks.
