C T Online Desk: The water level in Kaptai Lake has risen due to continuous heavy rains. For this power generation has been increased. According to the control room of Karnafuli Water Power Station, the water level in Kaptai Lake has increased by 4 feet in the last three days due to heavy rains.
Before the increase in water, electricity was generated by keeping only 1 unit running, but now 3 units are being used to generate electricity. According to sources, Kaptai Lake currently has 72 feet of water. The way it is raining is expected to increase the water more. ATM AbduzZaher, executive engineer at Karnafuli Hydroelectric Power Station, said the water level in the lake was 6 feet fish sea level (MSL) till June 15. At that time electricity was generated in 1 unit.
At present 3 out of 5 generators are running for power generation due to rising water level in the lake. If the water level rises further, it will be possible to start another unit for power generation. However, 1 unit is currently closed for maintenance. The three units are now generating 92 MW of electricity. All the electricity generated is being transmitted to the national grid., sources said.
