C T Online Desk: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested 53 gamblers for operating a casino under the guise of Recreation Center and Co-operative Society in the city.
On Saturday (June 11) night, a team of RAB-7 detained them from three floors of a building named Nawab Tower in Halishahar of the city.
At that time, 155 sets of cards, 430 gambling chips and 3 lakh 79 thousand 990 rupees in cash were recovered from the custody of the detainees.
RAB-7 Commander Lieutenant Colonel MA Yusuf told that a group had been operating casino and gambling business for a long time under the guise of co-operative society. In this case they used a kind of coin like plastic token. The price of this token is from 5 thousand to the maximum price of 5 lakh rupees. The youth of the area were tempted by this illegal money and got involved in casinos and gambling. During the raid on Saturday night, 53 people were arrested while gambling. Later they were sent to the respective police station to take legal action against them.
